Berkeley Craftsmen is a licensed residential general contractor dedicated to earning the trust of our clients through integrity, respect, and attention to detail. As a third generation business originally founded in 1907, we have successfully completed countless residential projects throughout the East Bay.

Michael Butler

Michael has worked in construction since he was a boy, remodeling houses for his father’s development company. During college, he renovated apartments in San Francisco with his brother Mark. After completing a B.A. in Anthropology, he and Mark founded Berkeley Craftsmen General Contractors to continue work that he finds most satisfying and enjoyable. He enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and 3 children, doing custom woodworking projects, many outdoor activities, and volunteering for Berkeley schools and other nonprofit organizations.

Mark Butler

Mark has an artistic eye for detail and takes pride in making high-quality work that will last for generations. An exhibiting artist for over thirty years, Mark holds a BFA from California College of the Arts with a concentration in painting. Also a musician, he collects guitars and enjoys the collaborative process of making music with his wife and son. In his building projects, Mark enjoys the challenge of creative problem-solving and is quick with his sense of humor and spirit of camaraderie. Mark brings a wealth of experience in craftsmanship, leadership, and completes the work on deadline.

Cannot recommend Berkeley Craftsmen enough. We did an extensive remodel, adding a 2nd floor and opening up back of house with new kitchen and family room. It was a positive experience from beginning to end.
